On ‘Good Morning America,’ Gayle King, long-time friend of Oprah Winfrey, comments on the host’s recent revelation that she has a half-sister previously unknown to her.
King pointed out that Patricia, Winfrey’s half-sister, was simply trying to locate her mother, and wasn’t interested in using her relation to Winfrey for personal gain.
“Patricia wasn’t trying to get Oprah. She was trying to find her mother. That’s what I think is so amazing about this story. She wanted to find [her mother] Vernita Lee,” said King. “Having Oprah as a … half-sister, it was a hell of a bonus. That was not her motivation. She wanted to reconnect with her mother.”
As for the future, King said Winfrey is looking forward to forming a relationship with her long-lost relative. “She wants to get to know her, as she says, ‘woman to woman,’ and try to see where it goes,” King said. “But she’s certainly open to having a relationship.”
