Ice-T says rap made Barack Obama the President.

Appearing on Wednesday’s “Today Show,” the rapper-actor was speaking about the influence of hip-hop when he told hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, “[Rap] put Barack Obama in the presidency. If it wasn’t for rap, white people wouldn’t have been so open to vote for somebody like Barack Obama.”

Gifford responds by saying she’d hope Americans would vote for Obama because he was a “good candidate, and not because [he is] black.”

Ice-T replies, “That had to happen after their eyes were opened up, and hip-hop was what brought us together.”
