While The Roots played backup, Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon schooled the audience on the history of hip-hop by performing a medley of seminal hits from the genre on ‘Late Night.’
Timberlake and Fallon started with ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by The Sugarhill Gang, which is widely credited as the first song to popularize hip-hop, then segue into classics by RUN DMC, Beastie Boys and Snoop Dogg, before tackling more current hits by Eminem, Soulja Boy, Kanye West and Jay-Z.
