CBS approached Conan about hosting the Tony’s on June 13th, Nikki Finke reports. Conan, who recently had to turn down an appearance on Fox’s “Idol Gives Back” charity special due to his exit agreement with NBC, was also unable to accept the Tony’s gig.
“Team NBC” tells Finke that Conan could have accepted the offer, since he is free to appear on TV after May 1. But “Team Coco” responds, “He can do interviews but can’t perform. He also can’t speak freely about NBC, which kind of kills his doing things in the way he’d want.”
FoxNews.com reported last week that Conan is “not even close” to signing a deal with a new network.
