Before the final presidential debate, on his Fox News show last night, Bill O’Reilly said moderator Bob Schieffer “has to retire tomorrow” if he doesn’t ask about Libya. Schieffer did ask about it, in his first question, but that wasn’t enough for O’Reilly.

On “CBS This Morning,” the Fox News host said “it’s inexplicable that governor Romney did not question — and neither did Bob Schieffer — the president about Libya, which is the hottest foreign policy story in the world, and it was just like ignored.”

Charlie Rose corrected him. But that wasn’t enough for O’Reilly: “It doesn’t matter, Charlie. And I’m not knocking Bob Schieffer here. All three of the debate moderators will not press the issue like you do on ’60 Minutes,’” said O’Reilly praising the CBS News magazine.

Then O’Reilly and Rose debated the goal of the debates:

O’Reilly: Who’s the stronger candidate? What’s best for America? Not to have these two guys mud wrestle. That would be fine if they did it but this isn’t a cable news program. This is a presidential debate.

Rose: You sound like you want the presidential debate to be more like a cable news program.

O’Reilly: I want it to be more like that in the sense that I want to get some illumination.
