It’s Regis Philbin’s last week on ‘Live,’ and the show is pulling out all the stops to send him off as a hero of daytime TV. On Monday’s show, Jimmy Fallon stopped by and serenaded Regis to the tune of ‘It’s Only Just Begun.’
Fallon sang, “Why do you have to leave? He’s only sixty-three … What’s that, he’s 80? Good lord.” He then gave a musical run-through of Regis’ TV career. “He started out at as a page on NBC .. from Joey Bishop into Kathie Lee, I’ll miss all those things you said,” before breaking into an impression of Regis excitedly yelling at Gellman about Jerry Seinfeld being on the cover of Newsweek.
When the performance was over, Fallon turned to Regis and expressed his affection for the TV icon. “I love you … thank you so very much Regis,” he said, to which Regis exclaimed, “How very nice!”
