Megyn Kelly’s insistence that Santa Claus and Jesus Christ are white men unnerved Daily Show host Jon Stewart, who picked apart Kelly and Fox News colleague Gretchen Carlson for their recent efforts above and beyond the usual “War on Christmas” rhetoric.

“Who are you even talking to?” Stewart asked of Kelly. “Children who are sophisticated enough to be watching a news channel at 10 o’clock at night, yet innocent enough to still believe Santa Claus is real, yet racist enough to be freaked out if he isn’t white?”

Stewart also took issue with Kelly’s defense of keeping both characters white — “Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn’t mean it has to change,” she said — saying it amounted to a slogan for oppression (and Arby’s restaurants), and arguing that the original Saint Nicholas resided in what’s now known as the country Turkey, which would likely make him a darker-skinned man.

“Who exactly is changing the facts to make themselves more comfortable here?” Stewart asked. “Actual Saint Nicholas — well, my guess is there’d be no Christmas if he looked [darker], because he’s probably still on the no-fly list.”

However, while Stewart also rebuffed Kelly’s saying Jesus was white — “You do know Jesus wasn’t born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, right?” he said — correspondent Jessica Williams was happy to reassure children that Santa was “real as f*ck.”

“It’s Miracle on 34th Street, not Miracle on 134th Street,” Williams reminded Stewart. “The only miracle on 134th Street is that we to participate at all. Half the time, Santa skips us on his way downtown, just like a taxi cab.”
