Katie Couric dodged persistent questioning from Barbara Walters about her future during an appearance on “The View.”

Couric was there to promote her new book, “The Best Advice I Ever Got,” but Walters bore in on the fervid rumors surrounding her tenure at the “CBS Evening News,” which appears to be all but officially over.

“Will you finally confirm that you’re leaving?” Walters asked. Couric wasn’t answering that question if her life depended on it.

“I don’t think it’s my place to do that,” Couric said. “I haven’t made a decision…I respect you wanting to answer this question, I respect you wanting to make news on ‘The View,’ but I’m not in a position to discuss it at this time. I’m talking about certain opportunities and figuring things out.” As she continued praising the show, Walters cut in.

“But you may do a syndicated show,” she said. “I’m looking at all sorts of opportunities, Couric said. She defended her show’s ratings, but Walters cut in again.

“Still was third,” she said. “Yeah, that’s true,” Couric acknowledged, adding, “…I did my best, I continue to do my best.” At the end of the segment, Walters let Couric know “I think you’re doing the right thing,” presumably endorsing her decision to leave the “Evening News.”

“Well, you don’t know what I’m doing but thank you for saying that,” Couric responded, laughing.
