On tonight’s O’Reilly Factor, guest host Laura Ingraham opened by going after liberals for making excuses for Rachel Jeantel‘s testimony in the George Zimmerman murder trial. In particular, Ingraham focused on Jeantel’s claim that the phrase “creepy-ass cracker” is not a racial one.” She used the line “the soft bigotry of low expectations” to push back against the idea of excusing Jeantel’s “cocky ignorance because she’s black.”
Ingraham noted, “for many non-blacks, [it] was shocking to hear” that cracker is not really an offensive term, and brought up the Paula Deen controversy to claim a double standard. She found it absurd that liberals took to the media to “scold white America for failing to understand her point of view.”
Ingraham posed this question to people making excuses for Jeantel.
“We have to excuse her poor manners, her disrespectful language, and cocky ignorance because she’s black?”
She noted that liberal elites generally avoid criticizing the behavior of black youths, but argued that when people set a low bar for someone, “they never end up rising above it.”
Ingraham concluded that making excuses for someone’s performance and lousy manners due to their skin color causes young people to get stuck in a cycle of “under-achievement” and “resentment.”
