Revisiting his public tete-a-tete with Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), comedian Lewis Black had a piece of sincere advice for Perry: take time off and go back to school.

“It’s not even New York — just go back to college,” Black told MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell on Monday. “Start over and take, really, another four years, and let’s look at the world again, Rick. And this time, try to memorize some stuff and pay attention in class.”

Perry provoked Black’s ire in June 2013 with an advertising campaign painting New York as a haven for “overtaxation, overregulation and frivolous litigation,” prompting Black to fire back with a rant calling him “the gift who has no idea he keeps giving”

“He may run for president again,” Black said of Perry on Tuesday. “If that happens, as a comedian, I’m thrilled, but as a citizen, I weep.”

O’Donnell also mockingly asked Black, “Are you now or have you ever been a Canadian?,” a swipe at another Texas politician, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

“No, I’m not,” Black responded. “I have too much of a genetic predisposition to irony and sarcasm.”
