On ‘Good Morning America,’ actress Natalie Portman explained why she took her newest role as a ballerina in the film ‘Black Swan.’ “I really wanted to work with Darren Aronofsky … I’ve just admired his work forever. So, when he approached me about it 10 years ago, I was just excited at the prospect of working with him. And I also just love dance,” Portman said, adding that she danced as a young girl until 12 years of age.
Portman said that, in order to portray a ballerina on the big screen, she felt like she needed to train like one. “We were doing, like, 5-8 hours of day of ballet, cross training with swimming, toning, just, basically, working out all day,” she said. “It gave me a complete, new respect for ballet dancing.”
