Katie Couric sat down with Prince Harry as he and the rest of Britain gear up to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee marking her 60-year reign.
Harry talks about how he’s learned to appreciate his grandmother even more in recent years, as well as how her adaptability has allowed the monarchy to navigate modern times.
Queen Elizabeth took the throne at just 25 years old, and Harry (who is 27) marvels at how she was able to manage her new responsibilities at that young age.
Harry reflects on how his mother, Princess Diana, was not alive to see his brother, Prince William, marry Kate Middleton last year.
He tells Couric, “I think she had the best seat in the house probably, but yes, she would have loved to have been there, she would have loved Kate.”
William echoes those sentiments in his own sit-down with Couric, talking about how “very difficult” it was to think about his late mother on his wedding day.
Both princes’ full interviews will appear on ABC’s “The Jubilee Queen with Katie Couric” special on Tuesday. night.
